Please don't waste your money if you want to learn how to use FB. May 5, 2010 Tia Hain (Petaluma, CA United States) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I wish I had put more weight into the other one star review over the others. I, too, felt this was a waste of time. As a small business owner that is into social media, I was hoping for some insights as to what I could do to help my business. Didn't really gain anything. I seem to know just as much about facebook as she does by just being a casual user for the last couple of years. It seems to be geared toward CEOs of major companies (like Coca Cola) who are 75 and have never used social media. A third of the book is dedicated to telling the reader about how computers started as mainframes and moved all the way to PCs and mobile apps. This book seemed more like a college term paper than a book on how to use social media to help your business. I am upset that I have wasted my money but more importantly, my time.
Great guidebook to social media and how to apply to your work or else! April 20, 2010 S. Kim (Sunnyvale, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I first learned about this book when I attended a marketing presentation given by Clara Shih.
br /Reading through the book, I could not stop taking notes how I can use and apply this to my work.
br /I am particularly interested in B2B in technical area marketing. It may be slow or still challenge to bring technical audience such as engineers to engage in this facebook window more than their datasheets or else, but it still is a great place to build your brand and expand gradually as Clara Shih mentioned the rising generation including engineers are savvy facebook generation!

br /I highly recommend this book to others.
Clara Shih rocks! Teh Facebook Era book is very informative! April 9, 2010 Stephanie (Florida, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Facebook Era is the BEST learning tool I have read/used in SO long! :)
br /
br /I am not a techie as many that read this book may be so it is a refreshing read as it translates to "non-techies" like me also! I am doing my best to embrace and learn what I can about how to use Facebook as an effective business tool thus Clara's work/this book are helping me as well as helping many others I know.
br /
br /I have a strong "non-social-media" sales/marketing background with a very specific niche group, corporate aviation, that unfortunately is not easily open to fully embracing social media yet thus I have to learn how to move forward by integrating social media into my work so I stay current with what is necessary in today's world which is how I connected with Clara, her work, and this book.
br /
br /I really want to learn as much as possible about hypertargeting/social filtering thus I am going to follow Clara's further work. I am thankful to be able to learn from her, from her experiences, and her successes.
br /
br /I am gifting this book to several of my friends as it is such a great learning resource.
br /
br /I greatly value Calra's connectedness to mentoring and empowering others, people of all ages will benefit from her work/from her teaching although our "younger generations" truly need Clara's work thus I look forward to her continuing to trail blaze/forge ahead.
br /
br /I look forward to more books written by her being released.
A great primer on Social Media April 8, 2010 Joseph (San Diego, California) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Facebook Era not only gives a good overview of the Social Media space, but is also very helpful in guiding the reader in utilizing Facebook as another source for marketing and increasing sales for a product and/or service. The author offers several ideas for generating revenue, including understanding how social capital plays an important role in creating new business opportunities. There are three chapters dedicated on how to engage your customers, getting your value proposition across to potential consumers, as well as steps on how to build and manage your social relationships, all very important parts to a successful online marketing strategy. The book also covers how Facebook can be utilized to garner customer feedback in order to strengthen the connection with current customers, which not only assists a business in better understanding how to possibly improve their product or service, but to bring new business through the door as well.
br /
br /The author's creation and development of the first Facebook business application, Faceconnector, proves that her experience with the Social Media space validates that this book is a must have for any business that desires to create a successful online marketing strategy by tapping social networks. I am definitely looking forward to the second edition.
A waste of time - unless you are into sales April 6, 2010 Reader 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book is basically a big promotion for [...] and its products. The author has a very amateur writing style, and the material is hard to follow. She should stick with blogging, perhaps.
br /
br /The book reads like an extended brochure for [...], the company she works for. The book is certainly geared to sales professionals. If that isn't you, don't waste your time.
br /
br /In fact, there are many other books about using social networks for marketing purposes that do an excellent job and are worth your time to read. This isn't one of them.
br /
br /There is no real depth or substance to this book.
