Good, but some omissions August 17, 2010 R. Leddy Overall, for what it is, it is a good first step to understanding Flash CS4 (as of this writing, Flash CS5 is out, so I don't know how the latest version of the book matches up). However, sometimes the steps in the tutorials don't actually work as advertised in the book and the problem with that is there is no real explanations about what you may have done wrong or how to fix it. That's kind of the problem with these step-by-step tutorial books. You get a lot of "how-to's" without a clear explanation of the "how-come's." Also, sometimes you are asked to do something that puts you in a different mode in Flash, then when the instrtuctions tell you to go back to the original mode to do something new, it doesn't explain how to get back to that original mode. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to get back where I needed to be during one excercise. Like I said, overall I think it's a pretty good tutorial book. I would suggest supplementing this book with another. I picked up "Flash CS4 for Dummies" also, which I feel is a pretty good book to help fill in the gaps.

Errors in the book not corrected on the Adobe Press website June 8, 2010 W. Mate (Beverly Hills, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I actually like this book and think that it is more clearly written and the fundamentals of Flash more clearly explained than in other Flash books.
br /
br /HOWEVER, the Adobe Press website offers NO corrections for problems that exist in the book. For instance, there is a .swf file on the CD for Chapter 4 that produces a flurry of output errors when run in Flash. How difficult would it be for Adobe put a downloadable version of the correct file on their site? Conversely, the Flash CS4 Professional Digital Classroom book does post corrections on a page from which you can also download any files that were inadvertently omitted from the accompanying CD. Whenever I get a computer book, I make it a practice to check the publisher's website for corrected mistakes. What's the point of frustrating oneself by following incorrect instructions when the corrected version can almost always be found online.
br /
br /Flash CS4 Classroom in a Book is an expensive book. They could at least post corrections to any errors, which other reviewers have also discovered, on their website. The bulk of the content in this book is worth 4-5 stars, but the failure to offer corrections demotes the book to 2 stars. It's Adobe, for heaven's sake. They know a thing or two about editing websites but are simply neglecting to do so.
flash May 31, 2010 Berta Pascual (SF, CA, USA) It was easy, quick and I got exactly what I wanted. It's an useful tool.
This book is great for every one May 31, 2010 J. Kew (Vancouver, British Columbia Canada) Review bt Thorsten - Vancouver InDesign User Group

br /I went through the book page by page and following the instructions step by step ... Guess what, it worked!!!
br /
br /It was a great experience in going from one page to another and being able to understand what was written. The pictures make it even easier as you can see in the book what is happening on the screen and vica versa!
br /
br /What made the whole a pleasant experience, it started with 0 and it brought me up to 100 in just a couple of days. From setting up the CD, instructions on how to read the book, how to work with the panels, going over easy exercises and at the end knowing what I need to do to create my own websites, flash movies, buttons and so much more. When something did not work, I just checked the book and looked at the images and most of the time I found the mistake. So easy! Even writing some codes or working with some scripts was really easy to understand.
br /
br /At the end it seems it just stops, there is no easing out. It would be great to see some tips tricks or the authors comment or what's happening now (with my own flash). To gett some guidance on what more is possible to improve myself even more after reading this book.
br /
br /This book is great for every one who would like to get started with Flash!
