Good value in this media player August 31, 2010 Douglas in Canada This will not be a long review. We are not A/V buffs like many of the people posting reviews - just average folks that like to watch our 32" LCD a few times a week.

br /At first I thought I'd be greatly disappointed with the unit because I found that a couple of videos (flash, I think) did not play or play properly (video and audio out of sync). I think the device locked on one occasion. After I discarded the idea of easily tranferring flash videos (youtube and similar) on a USB to view, things went better. Unless somebody else knows a streamlined way to move youtube and similar from the Internet to a USB to the Cinematube, I would recommend not wasting your time.

br /Eventually we just started watching some old shows recorded and available as uTorrents. I still d/l them to the computer first, copied them to USB, then played them on the player. Video is good, sound is good (HDMI for video, rca for audio). The remote is very good and probably the top of the class in this field. I partly bought the player, so we would have a good remote.

br /I still miss the ability to connect it directly to the Internet and stream recorded shows (flash or wmv, I guess). [I'm not interested in running a 'media server' or upnp computer in the middle -- that costs energy and wear tear on the PC] Maybe in the future it will stream video directly from some of the TV station web sites. That would be great.

Good price for a nice toy August 24, 2010 Luna Pablo (Uruguay) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Brite-View BV-5005HD is a good way to watch your movies, pictures, etc, and I think that is the best option for this price. The image quality is very good and also very easy to install, in 2 minutes is ready to go. I can't probe the tech support.
br /To be brief, if you want to a good device to watch all your movies for a reasonable price this is an excelent choice.
Very happy with it for the month I've owned it August 23, 2010 Grodd (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had a Brite-View BV-5005HD for a month and I think it's a great value for the price I paid. It gets daily use and is rapidly on its way to becoming the centerpiece of our entertainment room. I've mainly used the video features, but my brief tests with music playback and picture viewing were entirely satisfactory. The bulk of my usage has been from an USB devices that are plugged directly into the Brite-View BV-5005HD, but streaming content from my windows 7 pc over Ethernet also works just fine.

br /Pros:
br /- It supports every video format I've thrown at it, including AVI, MP4, MKV, ISO and M2TS.
br /- Picture and sound quality are great on 40" bravia and 6.1 surround system
br /- Firmware updates were easy to download and install (but you must update three times to bring the device fully up to date)
br /- For videos, the device offers the option to resume playback where you left off
br /- Supports subtitles from external files, even allowing adjustment of size placement
br /- Copy file feature works well over Ethernet after I installed the latest update
br /- Device is quiet and consumes very little power
br /- I was able to get answers to questions I had about the device and its features from the official site and also at the official blog
br /
br /Cons:
br /- Don't lose or damage the remote because without it you'll only be able to turn the media player on and off. Households with kids or high-impact users would do well to seek a programmable universal remote solution to safeguard against this eventuality.
br /- USB ports in the back are a pain for adding/removing USB thumbdrives, but that can be easily solved with a $1 USB extension cable
br /
br /Petty Gripes:
br /- Torrent feature doesn't allow uploading and requires a 20GB partition that's formatted in NTFS.
br /- The power light is bright enough to be annoying in a darkened room (such as one might encounter in a home theater) but its nothing that couldn't be remedied through careful application of electrical tape.
